Touro Fraternal Association offers financial support for temple security

CRANSTON – Touro Fraternal Association is offering financial support to all Rhode Island synagogues to assist in hiring professional police protection for the High Holy Days.

Touro, the area’s largest Jewish men’s fraternal association, has reached out to congregations in the state with an offer to help provide a safe and secure environment during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

“We are concerned with the safety of Jews in Rhode Island throughout the year. This is even a greater concern during the High Holiday period, when we gather to reflect on the past year and the year ahead,” Chairman Alan Lury, Vice Chairman Stevan Labush and Community Involvement Chairman Andrew Lamchick said in a letter to the synagogues.

Touro’s Board of Directors unanimously agreed to offer this financial support after last year’s mass shooting at a temple in Pittsburgh, as well as anti-Semitic events closer to home.

Interested congregation officials can contact Touro for more information at 401-785-0066 or by email at info@tourofraternal.org.
