Faith leaders renew poverty fight

On the 55th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty” speech, leaders from around Rhode Island gathered Jan. 8 at the State House in Providence to call on elected officials to address poverty in the state. The 11th annual Fighting Poverty with Faith vigil included a keynote speech by Rabbi Sarah Mack of Temple Beth-El in Providence, above.  At right, an overall view of the event, held in the State House rotunda.
