Alliance’s family-friendly Super Sunday fundraiser planned for Sept. 15

As summer changes to fall, students prepare for school and beach days drift away, the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island is powering up for Super Sunday, a unifying day of philanthropy that demonstrates the power of community.

Every year, the Jewish community comes together in support of the Alliance’s Annual Campaign and the more than 300 programs and services it funds annually. Super Sunday, the Alliance’s largest one-day fundraising effort of the year, will be held on Sept. 15 and co-chaired by Jennifer and Michael Oelbaum. Michael grew up in Providence and Jennifer is the secretary of the board of Providence’s Temple Emanu-El and is a member of the Alliance Community Development Committee. The couple lives in Lincoln with their 8-year-old daughter.

The theme of this year’s annual campaign is Jewish Moments Powered by You. To make this the most successful Super Sunday ever, the Oelbaums have helped plan a family-friendly event where, in addition to the phone bank, there will be activities for young children and teens.

“We are very excited to be part of this important event,” the couple said. “We look forward to the opportunity to help raise money for the programs that keep our community strong and vibrant.”

Alliance Board Chair James Pious said, “Super Sunday is the kickoff to our 2020 Annual Campaign. I am so grateful to Jennifer and Michael Oelbaum for planning such a special day.

“I am also grateful for all the past support from our community, however, our needs continue to grow. This is always an inspiring day, as we witness the community come together. If you cannot volunteer, please answer the [phone] call. With your help, we can make this the most successful Super Sunday to date!”

As an added incentive to “answer the call,” David and Carol Bazarsky have once again offered a matching gift, up to $10,000, for any new or increased gift made on Super Sunday.

Whether you make phone calls, volunteer in other ways to support Super Sunday, or answer the call, you are adding to the strength of the community in Rhode Island – and around the world. Community members are welcome to join the fundraising efforts at any time between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 15 for Super Sunday, at the Alliance’s Dwares Jewish Community Center, at 401 Elmgrove Ave., Providence, as we raise essential dollars for the community.
